AFLCIO 2017 Endorses Medicare for All

In October 2017 at its National Convention, the AFLCIO endorsed Medicare for All. Watch some of the testimonials of labor movement activists and leaders that led to the unanimous vote.

What's brilliant: eight years of organizing on the part of the Labor Campaign that led to this result. What's missing: any mention of HR 676, the Expanded and Improved Medicare for All Act, which long predates S 1804, is superior to it. Resources on single-payer legislation, including a link to a comparison of the two bills here: S 1804 is not a true single-payer bill: it leaves long-term care to Medicaid and the states. Also missing: an analysis of state single-payer bills, which are also not true single-payer bills, because state can't pass such--the can't include Medicare, Medicaid and ERISA (certain employer benefits plans that may cross state lines).
