What's brilliant: eight years of organizing on the part of the Labor Campaign that led to this result. What's missing: any mention of HR 676, the Expanded and Improved Medicare for All Act, which long predates S 1804, is superior to it. Resources on single-payer legislation, including a link to a comparison of the two bills here: http://ilsinglepayer.org/single-payer-legislation. S 1804 is not a true single-payer bill: it leaves long-term care to Medicaid and the states. Also missing: an analysis of state single-payer bills, which are also not true single-payer bills, because state can't pass such--the can't include Medicare, Medicaid and ERISA (certain employer benefits plans that may cross state lines).
